I love winter and I really love snow.  I love how snow quiets everything down.  I love that snow makes everything sparkle.  Most of all, I love playing in the snow.  Since Saturday, Mother Nature has blessed Incline Village, Nevada with 2 feet of snow at 2500′ elevation.  Incline is in Lake Tahoe’s “banana belt,” which has the warmest, least precipitous weather of anywhere around the lake.  On the west shore, Squaw Valley’s Snowfall Tracker reported 14-16 inches of new snow at their mountain’s base (6200′ elevation) and 18-20 inches of new snow at 8200′ as of this morning, which does not take into account the massive amounts of snow that fell today.  What a wonderful start to Tahoe’s winter!

If you’ve been keeping up with me, you might see where this is going . . .

There are 3095 USPTO trademark records that include the word snow (or its translation, transliteration), of which 1050 are LIVE (currently active).  There are an additional 1417 PTO records that have an image of snow in the mark, of which 581 are LIVE.  782 PTO records include images of polar and snow covered landscapes or icebergs, of which 331 remain LIVE, and 581 PTO records contain images of ice or snow covered letters, with 156 of these remaining LIVE.  Looking at the numbers, it appears that most snow-related applications are meeting the same fate as the glaciers — melting off into oblivion.

Of the LIVE PTO snow-related records, here are some of my favorites . . .

Can you guess on what products these marks are used?  Here’s some possibilities:

(a) windshield cleaning fluid      (b) frozen beverages

(c) socks                                         (d) frozen prepares or packaged foods

(e) recreational sleds                   (f) canned sauerkraut

(g) retail apparel                            (h) plastic snow shovels
